World Oceans Day Video Contest 2012 Winners!

Congratulations, Sonny Ison, winner of the

World Oceans Day 2012 Youth Video Contest Grand Prize!

Sonny Ison’s Grand Prize-winning video, “The Beach” was chosen on its quality, editing, message and content. Sonny, a freshman at University High School in West Los Angeles, is passionate about the ocean, sports, and writing. This video also took first in the Music Video category so we combined it into one.

Grand prize: HD GoPro Hero 2 camera, $500 cash

The eight final entries were wonderfully creative, original, and raised awareness of the importance of the ocean in unique ways. The ultimate decisions were difficult ones, and we salute all who participated.

Best Conservation Message and Winner of Public Vote

Because of her extraordinary conservation efforts, and the huge public support for “World Oceans Day” by high school freshman Ella Van Cleave, this video was given a new category, and awarded Best Conservation Message.

Most Humorous

We also had two incredible stand-outs in the Most Humorous category, resulting in a first place tie between “One Student, One Ocean” by 9th grader Ben Madison and 11th grader Mitchell Mack, and “Thinking Like a Fish” by 8th grader Alex Baird.

Best Video from a Non-Coastal City

“Source to Sea,” by James Griffith, a senior, clearly illustrated the connection between inland locations and our world’s oceans.
